Origin of VCARA
To look at the origin of the Vermilion County Amateur Radio Association, VCARA, we must first look back to the 1920's.
Joe Fairhall Jr., W9VV, and a young Leo Archambault, W9FPD, organized the first radio club, VCRA, Vermilion County Radio Association.
There were five other hams in Vermilion County at that time. Other than sending messages to each other by CW there is no record of any club activities.
After 17 years they added the word "Amateur" because of the Communications Act of 1934. In 1951 they registered with FCC and ARRL and a call sign was designated.
